Count All Things but Loss

Php 3:8
Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ

The song writer says ... count your blessings and name them one by one ... is in no doubt to appreciate the goodness of the Lord towards you. It is important to take notice of every little thing you may gloss over and give thanks to God for His goodness and mercy.

Apostle Paul says I count all things and so we need to count all things that pertain to your life.
Counting or count is described as ...
- to recite numbers in a sequence
- to be of significance; to matter
- to be an example of something
- to consider
- to take account or note of
- to plead orally; to argue a matter in court

Furthermore, to Count ...hegeomai..gk, means ...to deem, ...consider, ...account, ....count, ....esteem, ....judge, ....have a rule over, ....think, ....suppose, all things bestowed us by the Lord.

In other words, consider and account all things for your spiritual, physical and financial life. How improved are your life worth, count it?

Many have resigned themselves to fate and failure whilst there is every opportunity to turn everything around for success. Arise and count your success in your study, work, finances, progress, and spritual growth. Then you will be able to determine how blessed you are.

Account for yourself all things that pertain to life and godliness. It is important for the work of the ministry to count all things, and knowing that Jesus has endowed you with all the blessings, you consider all the things but loss for Jesus' sake. That is, you have given up all the things to God for His use.

Although we are rich and have rule over all things, yet you esteem them loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ who by example became poor that He might redeem us from every curse of the law.

The knowledge of Christ is more important and your possessions must not rob you of it, which is Satan's aim.

What is the your state of appreciating the truth or information about Jesus? The bible says ...

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Col 3:16

Knowledge ...gnosis..gk., means ...the act of knowing, ...knowledge, ....science,. In other words, we have to put to work our act of knowing who and what and why Jesus came into the world made by Him. It is also to Improve yourself. Apostle Paul command us to ...

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Tim 2:15

This act of knowing Jesus must grow and increase and to be put to work. It is knowing the facts about Jesus which is good. Only this, the act of knowing the scientific facts, will not change or affect your relationship with Jesus.

For the excellency of the knowledge of Christ, 3 other forms of knowledge in the Greek rendering which is ...ginosko ..gk, ...epiginosko ..gk, and ...epiginosis..gk., will help us to fully grow our faith in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ and affect or transform our relationship with Him.

Knowing Jesus is all about relationship and the atmosphere produced by it. Knowing Jesus is by revelation and a calling. Receive ...ginosko..gk, which means ...revelation knowledge. The Spirit of God bears witness that you are His and have become one with Him.

Your fellowship with the father and meditation in God's Word will bring the revelation of Him to you by His Spirit. The bible says ...

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. Jn 16:13-14

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: Eph 1:17

Receive ...epiginosko...gk, which means to know accurately and well, ...to recognise, ...to perceive, ...to ascertain or find out, ...to understand. This will be acheived by the search of the scriptures. Jesus said ...

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. Jn 5:39

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, Eph 1:18

Receive ...epignosis..gk., which means ...full knowledge, ...full discernment, ... full recognition.
This will change your thoughts and affect your actions because of your full knowledge and continous relationship with Him. It is participation with the source of all knowledge with full discernment.

He said blessed are the poor in spirit, that is, those who have counted their blessings and have considered it loss for Christ, theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Mt 5:2-3

We need to Count all things God provides for you and be content with the provision Jesus has endowed you. When you do, you will not worry about tomorrow because already you esteem it loss to Jesus. That is you know your hope is in the source of your provision.

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Heb 13:5

If you cannot count your possession loss for the excellency of knowledge of Jesus Christ but be ruled by your possession and its dictates, Satan will always visit you to take your attention from God to your possession which are all things apart from your heart where God dwells.

The love of possession more than God, many have pierced their souls with many sorrows.

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 1 Tim 6:10

Winning Christ is the ultimate aim who will protect you and all your possessions because you counted all, that is to take account or note of your possessions, but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ.
