"See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain." Exodus 8:5.
This was the Lord's instructions to Moses when he was about to make the tabernacle in his days. Doing a work according to a pattern can make the work interesting and easy because one has a standard to follow.
To have a pattern is not restricted to doing a work but it embraces a standing and/a walking before the Creator of the Universe. A way of life may be a pattern of someone else's. A son may follow his father's way of life and people will be able to say, "Like father like son." Likewise, a daughter may act as a replica of her mother. A mother in this instance becomes a pattern to follow.
In any instance, it can be for good or evil.
KING DAVID AS A GOOD PATTERN
"David did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, and had not turned aside from anything that He commanded him all the days of his life..." 1Kings 15:5.
This is the clean record of King David. He became a very good reference point in many things. When Solomon, his son was enthroned King after him, the Lord appeared to him the second time, after he dedicated the temple which he built. He said,
"Now if you walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you...then I will establish the throne of your Kingdom over Israel forever..." 1 kings 9:4
As from that time, any king of Judah who walked well before the Lord will be said to "walk according to David's way of life."
KING JEROBOAM: A BAD PATTERN
Jeroboam was a king over ten tribes of Israel with its capital in Samaria. He was the first king of that Kingdom and a very bad pattern to follow. The Lord complained about him thus,
"...you have done more evil than all who were before you,
for you have gone and made for yourself other gods and molded images to provoke Me to anger and have cast Me behind your back." 1 Kings 14:9.
Not only that his children followed his pattern but other kings too. They are compared with Jeroboam. For instance, the Holy Bible records about king Baasha, who reigned later over the ten tribes,
"He did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin by which he made Israel to sin." 1 kings 15:34.
You Are A Pattern!
King David had come and gone in the way of all flesh, leaving a very good pattern to follow. The same thing with King Jeroboam who left a very bad pattern behind. Now that you are still a living soul, what and whose pattern are you following? What was/is the life of the individual like? What do people and even God say about his life? What do you think may be the end of that person?
What is your pattern like? Good or evil? You cannot sit on the fence. It is either of the two. Your own pattern will speak now and in the future because certain people are watching you and many of them are following you, consciously or unconsciously.
Please, examine your life!
The Lord was satisfied with David's life and he had a glorious end with a covenant of salt which the Lord made with him. On the other hand, the end of Jeroboam was not a good one because he could not obtain a lasting covenant from the Lord. Do you live a life like Jesus Christ who is the best pattern to follow? Apostle Paul exhorts,
"In all things showing yourself to be a good pattern of good works in doctrines showing integrity, reference, incorruptibility, sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you." Titus 2:7
Stay blessed and rapturable because the Lord is coming soon.
