GOOD TIDINGS
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. Isaiah 61:1-3 (See. Luke 4:18-19)
In the book of Isaiah 61, God revealed his eternal plan for his son Jesus Christ by the mouth of his prophet. It entailed the mission and accomplishment of Christ’s sojourn on earth. When Christ finally arrived on the world stage, he also reemphasized this mission in Luke 4:18-19. How does the Christian today benefit from the ministry and divine assignment of Christ on earth?
1. Preach the Gospel to the Poor-Luke 4:18
Throughout the ministry of Jesus, one of the few things that were consistent about his life was his attitude towards the poor in society. When he saw the multitude without any shepherd after they had been with him for some days, he had compassion on them and fed them. He brought the good news to the poor. He fed them with physical bread but went beyond their physical needs to meet their spiritual poverty. He announced in John 6: 35 that, “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
Christ was manifested on earth not only to offer himself to mankind but to give the poor a reason to live. He came to make the poor a part of his program of redemption. How do we find ourselves in Christ’s mission on earth as Christians today? There is good news for the poor. Christ has given unto us the spirit of power, and also given to us the bread of life and living water to feed on and drink of freely. There is no more fear, there is no more worry, there is no more poverty!! There is life abundance in Christ Jesus. There is purpose in Christ Jesus. There is hope in Christ Jesus. In Christ Jesus, our victory is sealed. Isn’t this Good news? Isn’t this Good Tidings? May the Bread of Life continually feed us till we need no more. May his well of living waters remain in us springing to everlasting life in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen
Prayer:
Dear Father Lord, I thank you for manifesting yourself to destroy all the works of the enemy. I thank you for the Good Tidings you have proclaimed to me. I thank you for transforming my life and making me a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven and a child of God. I operate in your riches and glory, grace and abundance as I also proclaim the Good News to the unsaved in my world in Jesus Name. Amen.
