Transition Time and Trust

If you, like me, heard that this is the year of transition, that God is positioning you to go to your next level, then perhaps you got excited- like I did, and began preparing for the position or place that you believed God was taking you. Certainly your Pastor, spiritual leader, or prayer partner would not lie to you? Certainly you know you God for yourself and He confirmed it in your heart before the word came through others, right? So when what you thought would happen doesn’t, then what?

Here’s where trust and time should enter onto the scene. Yet, when the plans you’ve hatched fall short, when the dreams you’ve envisioned become nightmares, and the prayers you’ve prayed seemingly go unanswered, your trust starts to fade and you begin to feel as though time is running out. Your lack of trust then extends an invitation to the triplets whose names are Doubt, Worry and Fear. Now, getting to close to these three, whether individually or collectively, is very dangerous. Doubt causes you to waste time questioning your questions. Worry causes you to become distracted by the “What if’s” or to constantly be in a state of panic. Fear causes you to get stuck and not move at all. Together worry, doubt and fear cause you to depend more on yourself and others rather than God; since God is the only one with the Master plan, hanging with the triplets ultimately moves you further away from the path God intended for you to take.

So if Doubt, Worry and Fear have stopped by to visit, whether you invited them or not, let’s pack them up and send them on their way. They will make every excuse to stay in your life. But, remember they hinder your progress. So with holy boldness, take a deep breath and tell them to go! Undoubtedly the triplets visit will have caused some collateral damage. While it may be a minor setback, don’t spazz. The Bible tells us in Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose.” God still loves you and knew you would go this way. So repent where necessary, accept God’s forgiveness and continue to move forward because it was all of part of his plan.

Hosea 10:12 (NLT) reads: “I said, ‘Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord that He may come and shower righteousness upon you.” In this illustration, the field has been carefully prepared and is now ready for planting. Perhaps your transition is not about an actual place but more about a spiritual growth process that is removing some stuff or things or people out of the way in preparation for God’s blessing.

So that means you did hear God correctly. You are in transition. Now you must do as Proverbs 3:5 (NKJ) teaches us: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart. Lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and he shall direct your paths.” Our transitions are in God’s hands. God knows the right time, the right people, the right places and resources. If we would just trust Him, He won’t disappoint us. Because of that promise, you can add the final ‘T’, which is to give Thanks. We thank God for His Sovereignty and the fact that transition and time are both in His hands and unlike people, you can trust Him to carry out His perfect will and plan within your life.
