The Window

One day I stood in front of my window.
It was dressed in beautiful curtains.
Behind the curtain was a shade that kept the light out
and the coolness of dark within....

When tired of the darkness, I decided to open the curtains -
to lift up the shade.
The light burst in - filled the entire room.
I stood and marveled at the wondrous light.
I felt its warmth and for a moment,
I let the light embrace me.
I smiled.

I wanted more of the light but,
Night fell and the coolness returned.

When morning came, the light returned.
Excited by the light.
I decided to open the window.
I was took weak. It would not open.
Frustrated by my weakness, I became angry.
I sat - stared at the closed window
Ignoring the light that danced within....

Suddenly, it dawned on me.
The window was locked.
All I needed to do was move the latch.
Joy filled my heart.
The window was now opened.

Now I could see and feel the light.
The sun beamed upon my face.
Sweat beads formed but soon a warm breezed
brushed past the curtain and wiped the beads away.

I heard birds chirping - they sung me lullabies.
I moved toward the window to get a closer look.
I saw all that was hidden behind the shade.
I sat and marveled at the wondrous sights.

When night fell, the man in the moon winked and smiled and the stars provided a road-map for my dreams.

The next day, I left my window and
Walked out of the front door.
When I looked up, I saw that the sky's span was so much
Wider than my view from the window.
The bird's songs were louder than I had ever heard before.

I was FREE and
that freedom was peace -
the warmth of the sun -
the song of the birds -
the vibrant color adorning the flowers -
A feeling I did not want to end.

But the rain came....
The drops were so loud I couldn't hear my bird's song.
The sun took shelter behind the clouds.
I was cold - afraid.
I looked for shelter -
I found none.

Having wandered too far away from my window,
I was lost.

Snow started to fall.
The light of the sun bounced off the snow and
Poked me in the eyes.
I shut my eyes - afraid.
But the light beckoned my lids to open.

Tired, the snowflakes became a blanket for me to lay upon.
In the distance, I could hear a familiar song -
It grew closer...
I opened my eyes to see a choir of birds.

Their song gave me strength.
I stood up.
The sun greeted me, melted a path before me and
I followed my song home.
