Add Godliness to Faith

2 Pet 1:5-6
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

The word godliness is described as;
- The condition and quality of being godly, pious, scrupulously observant of all the teaching's of one's religion, practicing virtue and avoiding sin.

It is to be;
- Devoted to God;
- Devout;
- Righteous
- Gloriously good.

Furthermore it is to walk or live in a godly manner; piously; devoutly; righteously.

Apostle Peter admonishes us to Add ...epichoregeo..gk, meaning ...to furnish besides, ...fully supply, ...aid, ...contribute, ...add, ...minister, to your faith.

In other words, contribute and fully supply to your faith to hold on to God's Word of promise. Grow your faith and make it strong.

Faith is not transferable but it must arise out of each person's heart. Therefore give all diligence to add to your faith.

How?

By hearing more of God's Word because faith is produced from hearing.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Rom 10:17

As faith is produced in your heart, we are called upon to your add godliness to your faith.

But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. 1 Tim 4:7-8

Godliness ...eusebeia..gk, means ..piety, ...godliness, ...holiness, ...well reverent, ...pious, ...devout, ...godly.
Godliness or the Godkind of life we have received is to live as Christians among men demonstrating our faith in God in this crooked and wicked generation and draw men to Christ.

Your Faith ...pistis..gk, which means ...persuation, ...moral conviction of the truthfulness of God, ...reliance upon Christ for salvation, ...constancy in such profession, ...assurance, ...belief, ...believe, ...faith, ...fidelity, must be shown in a reverent manner and living piously.

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Heb 11:1

In other words, faith is reliance on the Word of promise from God which cannot lie or change and Holding on to the truthfulness of God's Word and constancy in such profession. So then let men see Jesus and have faith in Him through your godliness.

According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 2 Pet 1:3

This faith which is of man's spirit or its response to the Word of God and reliance on the Word of promise, we have to add godliness and be devout Christians.

But godliness with contentment is great gain. 1 Tim 6:6

Piety is of the heart or lies in the heart which flows spontaneously in our living and not in forms and norms of outward looking. Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.

A child of God must be well reverent because we are the temple and carry the presence of God. You must be gloriously good in presenting Christ to the WORLD.

It will be out of place to confess Jesus and behave or live in a contrary manner. Let your light so shine in you that men may see and give glory to God.

...that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 1 Tim2:2

As Christians, We need to be godly, pious and scrupulously observant of all the teaching's of Christ. Partaking in the Lord's supper to proclaim His death and resurrection till He returns and practicing virtue and avoiding sin.

But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. 1 Tim 6:11

Following godliness comes with great gain. You will have life and peace in this world of endeavor and be guaranteed of the life to come with the seal of the Holy Spirit.

...Godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.1 Tim4:8
