LESSER ME

The curtain went up
And down again as the performance ended
“I did well’: I thought to myself
As I shone before others to be seen

The lights went dark
And the music stopped
No one is listening or even grasp
why I am there
Only the dog at the ally waiting for a bite to eat

As I step over the curb to become the lesser me
I no longer shine but I am free
I no longer sing but I can dance
I no longer have fans but I have friends
I no longer perform but I can be true to myself

You might not like my lesser me
Nor do I care what you think
I love who I am and where I am going
I am truly free in my lesser me
I have been delivered
I have been set free
