ENDLESS RUINS

Archaeology has collected evidence over the years of ancient cities that once were there but today that same cities lay in ruins. One could we argue that cities has only got a certain lifespan, therefore we cannot say that God has anything to do with it.

 Prophetically Psalm 9 v 6-7 tells us otherwise:

‘Endless ruin has overtaken the enemy, you have uprooted their cities; even the memory of them has perished. The Lord reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment.’

 What does this means for us today as a modern society? The first realization for us is to understand that this world with its magnificent cities and all what it represent shall not stand forever. There will come a time that Jesus Christ shall return to judge the world, bringing an end to all what we know today.

 For us as Christian believers this is great news, for the Bible tells us that after the terrible judgment a new earth and a new Jerusalem shall be established where Jesus Christ shall reign forever and ever. This gives us hope as we experience the aftermath of humankind’s wrong choices every day.

 Economic struggles, war, famine, illnesses, broken relationships, stress and relatively everything else that seems to bring us to our knees in despair shall be no more. In that glorious day we shall truly know what peace, contentment and love is all about. –Revelations 21

 The second realization for us is to learn not to put our faith in the things of this earth as all earthly things will pass away. We should learn to put our focus on the heavenly things, for when we do all of the earthly things will not bind us but set us free. We will learn again to enjoy what we have with thankful hearts. We will value our time with our families; we will laugh more as well as just being more happy and purposeful in life.

 For by focusing on the heavenly things brings a more positive and purposeful way of thinking that have a positive influence on every other area of your lives.

 The third and final realization for us is that God is a God of justice and what He says He will do. He does not change His mind. In other words we ought to understand if we go on making life choices that do go against all that He stands for we will bear the consequences, no questions asked.

 Therefore the ancient ruined cities are just a reminder for us to watch our step when it comes to disobedience towards God, because God is a righteous God and because He is holy we must also be holy.

 Every step of disobedience against God is a curse, thus when certain areas of people’s lives are looking like these ancient ruins it is because their disobedience have led them there. How can theyescape these endless ruins?

 The answer lies in repenting, for when they repent and turn away from their sins the blood of Jesus Christ cleans them from that quilt, thus breaking the curse and turn that area of their lives into fertile soil again in order  for God to plant seed of blessing in that soil which shall grow over time.

 Our responsibility then is to put our hope and focus on the heavenly things that shall come to pass and that are already there, then automatically we shall be able to make good choices of obedience, making it for God possible to grant us the blessing of an obedient lifestyle.
