Sin Not The Problem

Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses. Acts 13:39

If you are a believer and feel separated from God, you may think it is because of sin in your life. This is not true.

Let's say you borrow money from a friend and promise to pay them back. Time passes, unexpected expenses happen and you cannot pay.

What do you think would happen to the relationship from your end? Would you be excited to see them, owing a debt you could not pay? Would you seek them out, or feel guilty and avoid them?

I lent my brother some money and he could not or would not repay me. He avoided me and as time passed the relationship became non-existent. When I tried to get in touch with him, he blew me off and never replied. He became hostile and died without talking to me again.

The truth is, I wanted my brother back and told him I had forgiven his debt, but he did not believe me. He died conscious of a debt that no longer existed. In the end it was not the debt that was the problem; it was his unbelief that his debt had been totally forgiven.

Since Jesus sacrifice worked, Hebrews 10:2 states we are no longer to be sin/debt conscious. If we are sin conscious instead of conscious of our righteousness in Christ, that is unbelief. This is why the Holy Spirit convicts the believer of righteousness, not sin, as Jesus clearly states in John 16:8-11.

And when he comes, he will convict the believer concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer (John 16:8,10 my paraphrase). Learn

What are you conscious of today?

Probably in here a definition of sin needs to be given. The best one is Rom. 14:23: 'whatever is not from faith is sin.' There are times as born again people we do not exercise faith in Christ. To worry is to not exercise faith. There are times when we make that choice not to abide in Christ. We fall back to the flesh. We will not be judged for the sins we may commit as a result of that because Jesus has taken those away. He took the judgement for that. True, we do not want to be sin conscious (which is where Satan wants us to be) we want to be relationship conscious instead. We want to go back to abiding...because if we do not we will reap what we sow and we all know that is so unfulfilling not to be attached to the vine. For without Him, we can do nothing. At this point aren't we quenching and grieving the Holy Spirit? Are we on the same page?
