LOVE SURPASSES ALL
In a world where life is not always what it seems to be the term love speaks different volumes to different people. For some love is practical acts of caring, for others love is simply a feeling or an emotion that one feels towards the person you care about.
However for the believer in Christ love has far more influence and deeper meaning. For we are serving a God which whole being is love. In a sense what we can humanly understand about love is that when you look at the night sky you see many stars but you can only comprehend the existence of one star.
Where God can not only look at the stars but He can comprehend the whole universe with it billion of stars, galaxies , sons and moons. Not only because He can but because He is the Creator of the universe.
In the same way God understands love on a much higher level that we cannot understand because He isthe Creator of love. His whole being is love.
Thus when wherever there are scriptures in God’s Word telling us to love each other we are to do it in a way that bear witness of how our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ loves each other as well as They loved us.
For the cross at Calvary are the letter of love from Them to us and the rest of the world. The Heavenly Father do not in any way “prove” His love to us. The blood what flowed for our sins tell the whole story of his Father Heart towards us.
Now we as believers need to tell this love story to a hungry world that needs to “read” it desperately. How should we write that love story from the Heavenly Father’s heart towards the hearts of others?
Jesus prayed before His crucifixion:
‘My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” John 17: 20-23
From out of this prayer of Jesus we can come to the conclusion that before we can be letters of love for the world to “read’ we need to function in the unity of love in the Body of Christ first. Rather let it be said that before we can start evangelize the outside world we need to evangelize ourselves first in the glory of Jesus Christ so that we can love each other in unity.
For when we start to move in unity of love the outside world will notice it all together and the hunger for the same love and unity will follow. In other words we can call this automation evangelism.
When the Church of Christ moves in unity and love towards each other, evangelism towards the outside world happens automatically. The Early Church is a proof of this:
‘All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.
They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” Acts 2 :44-47
So to conclude we can say that in order to evangelize the world we need to surround ourselves in God’s love by coming into His glory and through His glory we will be one in unity and love. It is then that the world will recognize this unity and will be added towards the Kingdom of God.
Let the love that surpasses all become so much part of us that we shall shine with unity and love for each other.
