On Marriage

If you want something to last forever, you treat it differently.

You shield it and protect it.

You never abuse it.

You don’t expose it to the elements.

You don’t make it common or ordinary.

If it ever becomes tarnished, you lovingly polish it until it gleams like new.

It becomes special because you have made it so, and it grows more beautiful and precious as time goes by.”

- F. Burton Howard

The quote above is true and so very rich! When you want a thing to remain of inestimable value; you handle it with respect and not expose it to the HARSHNESS of the ‘elements’ that abound.

Marriage was instituted in this regard in the Garden of Eden by God, but it seems mankind has come a long way away from the command; “Ephesians 5:31, Matthew 19:5,Mark 10:7, Genesis 2:24”

Far too many marriages in ‘modern’ times end in divorce; Selfishness, sin, permissive third-party distractions and interventions, and personal ease / comfort, often prevailing over divine covenants and commitment.

Eternal marriage is a divine principle established by the most High before the foundation of the world before sin took over. Adam and Eve were ‘betrothed’ to each other by God, in that blissful Garden before the Fall.

Genesis 5:2; Matthew 19: 4-6. He created male and female as one even before He separated the two into Physical entities to work to make things work between them. Every good thing needs exerting muscle, wisdom and character to fine-tune and refine.

The Bible is the word of God that depicts the heart of God to His children. A man shall leave father and mother, means he has a new priority which is MARRIAGE. Marriage is the foremost of human relationships. Husband and wife relationship as planned by God is designed to be closer than brothers, sister, even parent-child.

CLEAVE is an important word used in the Bible to mean joining unto a thing without having the capability to be easily unstuck afterwards. Marital union is used often in the Bible not with levity but a deep meaning to depict our relationship with our heavenly father, Jesus’ return and being the bride of Jesus is a big responsibility. Like in the physical, some give the Lord a certificate of divorcement so fast before the marriage has a chance to stabilise, either knowingly or unknowingly.

Everlasting Marital bliss may not seem achievable in our day, but respect for God’s word in one-another makes it attainable.

The ultimate prayer is that we see marital union for the priceless gift that it is,be determined to work at it in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
