Though the cross of Jesus Christ was sunk into the ground of the hill of Golgotha or Calvary, it really was planted in and grew like a tree out of the soil of the garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus wrestled with but submitted at last to His Father's will and plan for the redemption of the human race. We are still reaping the fruitful harvest of that submission today as the antidote to the misery that was planted in an earlier garden (Eden) by our first ancestors Adam and Eve, when they doubted the good intentions of their Creator.
Their submission, unlike that of Jesus, was misguided. They submitted to the insidious suggestion of the serpent (which cast suspicion upon the character of God) and planted a crop of death and woe that is being reaped increasingly with each day. But the antidote is at work. The first Adam's harvest is a temporary one, while the last Adam's harvest is eternal!
