Father Please Forgive Our Wayward Society

We can teach Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny too
Read about and celebrate witches in our schools
But not allowed to bring Gods' name in
Afraid of the message it may send

We worship people and material things too
As we plod this life through
Yet, Yah said “Have no other gods before me”
Father please forgive our wayward society

We all have our idols of one kind or another
Whether made by us or some other
Homes, cars, and jewelry are just a few
Even paintings and toys are worshiped too

We work and save to acquire physical possessions
With many it has become an obsession
Yet He says that this is not to be
Father please forgive our wayward society

Yahwehs name has become forgotten in our day
Left behind, struck out somewhere along the way
Even in the Bible, His Word, it’s no longer there
YHWH was lost, left behind somewhere

Replaced with GOD and LORD in capital letters
I guess the capitals is to make it better
If we don’t use his name-is it so it can’t be done vainly?
Father please forgive our wayward society

The Sabbath day we no-longer keep
It’s just another day of the week
Thanks to Emperor Constantine in March, 321 AD
It was changed from Saturday to Sunday

Even if we observe and keep His Day Holy
Do we give ourselves wholly?
Or do we do so conveniently?
Father please forgive our wayward society

To honor means to respect, reward
Also to favor, obey and award
Do we do this for our parents today?
Or has it been left behind as we go our way?

Do we honor our parents the best we can
Or leave it up to a neighbor or friend
Leaving them behind so we live at our liberty
Father please forgive our wayward society

If someone commits murder we wonder why
We avenge the life with a battle cry
Yet, all the while
Allow abortion, the killing of an unborn child

We turn our backs on the needy out there
Allowing many to die from lack of care
Unseen, they’re not a priority
Father please forgive our wayward society

Marriages have been defiled and left behind
Not fitting in with the age of our time
Many sleeping with others instead
Violating the holy, sacred marriage bed

Their oaths forgotten when times got rough
Bailing out because it’s gotten a little tough
Throwing away their marriages carelessly
Father please forgive our wayward society

Everyone hates a thief
Home invasions, robbery causes such grief
But we think nothing of taking from Our Father
We use His tithes to pay another

He provides our skills so we can live
And asks so little of what he gives
Giving to Him is not a luxury
Father please forgive our wayward society

Gossip hurts and is often untrue
The truth twisted and askew
We spread it so very carelessly
Not realizing the damage that can be

Fingers pointing, false accusations made
Not thinking twice about what we said
Wagging our tongues so shamelessly
Father please forgive our wayward society

We’re never content, always wanting more
Keeping up with our neighbors, keeping score
Wanting what they have, possessions, a husband or wife
Always unsatisfied with our own life

We make excuses for our actions in our house
Even when it includes taking someone else’s spouse
Taking what we covet openly
Father please forgive our wayward society

As we continue to fall, He continues to pick us up. Someday, we will get it. I call it learning the hard way. Eden was the easy way and it wasn't good enough for us, so here we are. Forgiveness from the One who Loved us first is what we truly need now and next we need to learn to forgive ourselves and others.
