“Remember your leaders, who spoke the Word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:7-8 NIV
God knows what we need. When I gave my heart to Jesus He put me in the care of a mature group of Christians who have a passionate love for God and for each other. The Lord taught me many things through their examples.
The longer I walk with the Lord the more He shows me that one of the greatest words in the bible is the word “is”. Consider these verses:
“God is love.” (1John 4:16 NIV) That is His nature. He doesn’t have to learn to love like we do. Because He is love He will never stop loving us. We may slip and stumble, but His love for us will remain constant and unchanged.
“For He Himself is our peace.” (Ephesians 2:14 NIV). Did you catch that? We don’t have to ask for it or search for it. His peace resides inside of us. What a great thing.
“Do not grieve for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” (Nehemiah 8:10 NIV) We may not always be happy. Happiness is dependent on the things that happen to and around us. Joy comes from knowing that we have been redeemed. My friend gave me a great reminder. “I have been redeemed and that is enough.” When I truly believe that, I am able to be content despite my circumstances.
“He is our refuge.” (Psalm 91: 9-10NIV). A few years ago a friend sent a card to me. It showed a duck with its wings spread wide. It was wearing a raincoat and underneath its wings stood a little mouse. The duck gave the mouse shelter from the rain. Inside it said, “We were not made to weather the storms alone. We need each other.” That is very true of our relationship with the Lord. When we rely on Him to provide shelter and protection through the storms of this life, we can rest securely beneath the shadow of His wings.
I wrote this devotional many years ago but the principles still hold true today. I can bask in His love for me because it will not change.
