“ ‘ O LORD God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand is there not power and might , so that no one is able to withstand You?”- 2 Chronicles 20:6 (NKJV)

These words were spoken by King Jehoshaphat in a time when many, many armies were coming against the people of Judah…. “ a great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea.” ( 2 Chronicles 20:2 NKJV ). “ And Jehoshaphat feared and set himself to seek the Lord and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah….from all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord.”- 2 Chronicles 20:3-4( NKJV)

The people were in danger. Armies larger and mightier than they were coming to destroy them; they feared for their lives. This time, they turned to the right place in the right time. The Lord is always our turning place. Is He not God in heaven? Does He not rule over the kingdoms of the nations? In His hand is there not power and might so that no one is able to withstand Him? When many, many armies are coming against us to destroy us, the Lord is our turning place. He will answer us according to His heart.

“’ For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.’ Now all Judah, with their little ones, their wives, and their children, stood before the LORD” - 2 Chronicles 20:13 ( NKJV)

He knows our situation but it doesn’t hurt to confess it to Him anyways; probably because we need to hear it spoken by ourselves. They confessed that they had no power to withstand these armies and they didn’t know what to do at all. But their eyes were upon Him. All of them were gathered together; from the ancient to the newborns! Can get you get the image of this time and this people in your mind? See the fear that is causing them to seek God. See their eyes looking up to Him with reverence, and hope; hope that He would deliver them. Asking that He would save them. Our eyes are upon You. Remember the lyrics to A Mighty Fortress is our God. God did not leave them waiting in the dark. He had not abandoned or forsaken them; He was right there with them, hearing their prayer, and ready to answer.

“ Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly . And he said,
‘ Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat!
Thus says the Lord to you: ‘ Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow go down against them. ….You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you.”- 2 Chronicles 20:14-17 ( NKJV)

Sometimes God calls us to fight a battle. To gird ourselves with our weapon and go out in His strength to take down the foe. But there are other battles where all He requires of us is that we go out, positions ourselves, stand still, and watch Him steal the show!
“ Do not be afraid.” How many times do we hear God reassure His people with these words? Over and over again throughout time! Exactly the same, He says to us, “ Do not be afraid. Do not be dismayed. I am with you.” The God of all power and authority is with us; whom shall we fear? The battle is not ours, it is the Lord’s. This time all they had to do, after seeking Him and putting all their trust and hope in Him, was get themselves into a position where they could watch Him do His thing.
