What Kind Of Person Are You?

He that follows after righteousness and mercy finds life, righteousness and honor.

Proverbs 21:21 (NIV)

What kind of person are you? Are you one who lives their life wishing to learn and know how you may better serve your family, your friends, your neighbors? Or are you one who lives their life wishing to be served and exploit your family, friends and neighbors?

A person finds what he or she searches for; and what a person draws near to meet her/him. Those with a servant spirit receives treasures far beyond what those wanting to be served can even know or imagine. Those wanting to be served cannot recognize a gentle, kind word of encouragement without thinking there is a trick involved; understand why someone would open a door for another without thinking that person is attempting to rob, steal or harm them; or giving another their meal when the giver is so hungry themselves without thinking perhaps the giver is trying obtain a later favor.

Being a servant does not involve looking for something in return. A servant is focused on what Jesus did throughout his entire ministry. A servant sees Jesus in the person the gift, the kind gesture, the kind word is given to. So instead of thinking so much being served, it is far better to get busy, roll up one’s sleeves and do good for others! We have the most perfect model—Jesus Christ!

Being a servant does not always involve things though it may. Being a servant does involve the giving of what is valuable to every living person—their talent, time and treasure small or great and the willingness to sacrifice. If one does this on a daily basis, the receiving will take care of itself far, far beyond what one is able to comprehend!


Prayer:

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
