Understanding the truth that God still loves us and needs us even when we have gone too much astray from His will, is perhaps sometimes not so easy to understand. We feel sometimes so proud of ourselves when we look and behave very spiritual but feel bad when we get trapped in sin. Remember that God does not love us on the basis of what we do, but on the basis of who He is and what He has done for us. The next time when you feel to regret yourselves because you have committed some sin, come boldly before the throne of Grace by keeping faith that God loves you in the perfect way.
But why actually does God love us? He knows the true original nature of man, the nature which Adam and Eve had just before eating the forbidden fruit. He knows that there would be crores who will repent and start living a holy and acceptable life. He knows that we all need His love and forgiveness so much that even if we are unworthy, we will eagerly come to Him in true repentance.
Dear brother, sister in Christ! What was the sin you committed which led you to terrible remorse and led you to doubt the grace of God? You may have done wicked things that you cannot share to anyone, you feel rejected and alone now. You say that nobody wants you; nobody sympathizes with you in your state of inner pain. But God has a good news for you. The good news is that the Holy Spirit can change your life. You can come back to the Lord once again. Pray now itself that He may give you a fresh insight of His love and eagerly accept His transforming forgiveness into your lives.
Many problems can be avoided if we start believing daily that God loves all of us no matter what we do. Guilt, remorse, regret – all these are enemies of success and well-being. Even then, when we repent, it should be from our hearts: a complete turning back with a strong decision to live according to God’s Word. There is no half-repentance, repentance is always complete. So it is clear that those who repent, never keep on sinning.
What can we give to God in return for His love? Learn to love your enemies, your friends, colleagues, family, parents, children, neighbors, siblings, bosses, employers, employees, pastors, fellow-believers. Commit your whole life and heart for the good pleasure of God. Live a Bible-based Christian life. Even this is nothing compared to what God did for us.
God is love. So He knows what true love is. He explains it in 1 Cor. 13: “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” (vv. 4-8a, 13)
How many of us do really experience God’s love in our hearts?
