How to Exercise Dominion
The phrase ‘Have Dominion’ is seen in the Hebrew rendering as Marshal which is translated ‘to rule or reign.’ In the mind of God, you don’t exercise dominion until you are fruitful with what has been entrusted unto your care, multiplied it and subdued your scope of influence. Many people want to exercise dominion in this life but they miss the prerequisite for the life of dominance. You cannot exercise dominion by sleeping in bed all day and wishing for a life of dominion. You can’t exercise a life of dominion by not adding value to what God has given you. You exercise dominion by producing results, duplicating the results for the purpose of distributing around all spots on the earth. To make it more practical, let’s look at a very important task that was given to a two kinds professionals.
Five orange seeds were given out to a hunter and a farmer (cultivator) to be planted to fill a land of the size of 10 football pitches. Now the hunter who also in this case represents the Esau kind of people saw this task as a herculean one and even an impossible task. He set out to plant these five seeds, right after harvest, he consumed everything he harvested and that was the end. Now this is not surprising because the Esau mentality kills everything they come across, with the thinking that there is always an abundance of animals in the forest to be hunted for. But the Jacob kind of people in this sense a cultivator did something very unique with his five seeds. He planted the first set of orange seeds and when it was time for harvest, he harvested the plants, selected out the best seeds and replanted them on another portion of the field; he repeated this process (replenish) over a period of time until the whole land was filled with orange trees. It is at this moment that the cultivator began to dominate the 10 football size pitches entrusted to him. That is the moment he began to rule or exercise dominion over the land. At that particular moment of rulership, even though he still needs to work, he wouldn’t work as much as he would have in the season of planting. During the period of dominance, you have already devised a system which you are so familiar with that makes you produce much result with seemingly little efforts not because the effort is little but because you have mastered the system. When God wants us to exercise dominion, he is actually talking about taking over the spheres and the realms entrusted unto us. Filling every spot with our produce until it is taken over by the work of our hands. The question at this stage is that are we dominating in our sphere of influence with the potential that has been given to us. Do you really want to exercise dominion in this life? The book of Romans 5:17 says, For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ. Many Christians today want to reign in this life by one Jesus Christ but are not prepared to work, they rather prefer God to show up and say to them in a deep voice, ‘wake up my son Tullow Oil Company is yours go and take over’ but you see, even if God is to operate that way, you would have to wake up and go out there to possess your possession and you must be prepared for some legal battles, oppositions and slaps. The promise land is not acquired without first battling the sons of Anak. Will you stand with the ten (majority) that believes in their inability or you shall charge on with the two (minority) who believe in their ability to possess the land? Will you be crippled by the fear of the majority or you shall be emboldened by the courage of the few Calebs of this world? Are you prepared to wake up now and possess your possession?
