Accomplishment that Counts.

At the age of 11, He knew his purpose in life. Luke 2:49 and he said unto them, ‘How is it that ye sought me? Wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?’
Interestingly, when the story of the greatest man to have graced the surface of this planet is being told, nothing is mentioned about the monuments he built, nothing is even mentioned about the mansions he lived in (I am not saying any of these things are bad), he was a focused person right from his childhood, he knew exactly his original intent in this life, and bothered himself with little of the world’s pleasure. The moment he saw his final picture, he could withstand all the trials and temptation that came his way. Knowledge and pursuance of purpose always prevent us from wasting our time on useless things; I brought his age into the discussion as a caution to us all especially the youth of today. The word of God says in Ecclesiastes 12:1a ‘remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not.’ As pilgrims on earth, we must remember our creator in the days of our youth, so that we shall fulfill our purpose in this life at the prime of our lives, because a time shall come when it would be very difficult to do the things we desire to do for God. They that seek him early shall find him. Jesus sought him early and found Him, seek him early too and you shall also find Him.
The book of Mark 14:3-9, also talks about another woman (Mary) who fulfilled the most important purpose for her life and by that singularly act, she was taken from relatively an unknown person to global preeminence, she fulfilled her original intent and it was for that purpose that I am mentioning her name in this book. What is it that she did? Let’s look at verse 3 , And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. This act may seem insignificant to some people but that is the import of the whole question of purpose or original intent. No matter how significant or insignificant one’s purpose may seem, it is very vital in the body of Christ. The emphasis on the importance of purpose was also demonstrated in Corinthians 12:16-17, when God stated; ‘and if the ear shall say, because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?’
This verse reinforces the Principle of Unity in Diversity where the whole body works as a unit because each part plays the role it should play. Now, let’s go back to Mary and let’s hear what the Creator had to say about her fulfillment of her divine assignment, Jesus rightly predicted in Mark 3:14, ‘Verily I say unto you, Where so ever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.’
If today, I am mentioning her name in this book, that shows the import of what she did and the niche it has created for her in the history of man. Isn’t it wonderful to be obedient to your call? It will save us a lot of trouble today if we identified our original intent in this life. I believe that Mary might have done a lot of other things in her life others might have considered as significant achievements. May be a Noble Peace Prize could have been awarded her for those things but Jesus doesn’t look at that. It doesn’t matter to God how much you accomplish in the eyes of human beings, what matters most is that what you accomplish is in line with the God given purpose for your life. Millions of us today are dying for things that have no eternal bearing, let us not waste our lives on ‘earthy things’ and accomplishments, let us focus on what is important. That which is important is that which Jesus himself shall praise and consider worthy not what Forbes magazine considers as important.
