REFLECTIONS ON FIFTY SHADES OF GREY, THE BACHELOR, AND THE DUGGAR FAMILY

Women, married and single, are reading the book.  Christian women are reading it too.  And now the film.  I heard recently that the wife of a church elder, not satisfied with their sex life, packed her bags.  Another, in ministry, started looking for sex partners online.

I watched an interview recently with a former "Bachelor" of the reality show, same name, who professed to be a Christian when he was on the show.  He apparently remained a virgin until he was married.  I give him credit for this, and for being open about it.  But what about all the temptations, and all the kissing on the show, not just with one woman but with several?

On another occasion, I heard a young Christian woman make a comment that there are Christian singles in her ministry who kiss for recreation.

A few nights ago I decided to tune into "19 Kids And Counting".  Jill Duggar and her fiance Derick were preparing for their marriage.  They had decided to wait until they were married to kiss for the first time.  They said it was difficult but that was a choice they had made.  I was touched by the respect they had for each other, and the purity and innocence that shone though their relationship, prior to the wedding and during the wedding ceremony.  The morning of the wedding they had devotions together.  Another sister and her fiance said that they, too, had decided to wait until they were married to kiss for the first time.  I felt so refreshed after watching this show.

As I reflected on the book and film, the television interview and this show, I believe Jill and Derick and her sister and her fiance, have chosen a better way.
