What's on your mind?

There is a poster of Sigmund Freud's "What's On a Man's Mind?" depicting a naked woman using his facial features.
This poster rightly or wrongly suggests that the only and permanent preoccupation of a man's mind is a naked woman! Imagine if this was true of all men or even just a single man in the entire world? Pathetic? Sad?

What's on your mind?

The mind is the gateway to our soul and consequently is a very important aspect of our being. Every expression in life(100%) - words spoken and unspoken, thoughts, desires and aspirations, likes and dislikes, things we do or don't do,etc - all are first processed in the mind. There's nothing about us that doesn't first go through our minds. In other words, if it doesn't come into our minds it cannot happen.

To underscore the importance of the mind the bible instructs us in Proverbs 4:23GNB

Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts.


Input is Output.

Everything that goes into our mind is responsible for what we do but not everything that comes in contact with our mind should be let in. We can control what we accept into our minds.

The mind is an open field and we have no control over what flies over it or even what is dropped on it. That we cannot control. But we have power and control over what we allow to settle on it and what we allow to stay out of all the unsolicited droppings. That is our responsibility.

The mind is the most active part of every human and it works tirelessly round the clock even when the rest of the body is on a break - sleeping. Consequently it is only normal to expect a lot of waste and unwanted materials from the activities of our minds. Hence the necessity for a constant clean-up exercise that takes care of the unwanted materials if we are to maintain a healthy and clean mind.


The War against the Mind.

There's a conspiracy to invade, assult and colonise the mind. There's a conspiracy to pollute the mind with toxic waste. There's a conspiracy to control the mind.
We are personally faced daily with sights and sounds that tempt our moral uprightness and spiritual integrity, but as if our private struggles aren't enough we are further inundated with global and public attempts to completely force us into submission.
The media - visual, audio and print - is full of direct and indirect assults on our morality. Pornography, info-pornography, graphics and info graphics, violence, greed, lust,sex,sensuality, selfishness, covetousness, disrespect, hate, etc are the main trade of the mass media. The music and movie industries aren't any different. In the commercial sector the chief mantra is 'Sex sells' - everything has become sexualised including the holy seasons and holidays. Even the communication industry isn't left out - sexting, cybersex, camsex, cyberdating, etc - all of which are conscious attempts to bring one into submission. Many have already surrendered to the invading forces and have even become drafted to assist in the annihilation of anything and anyone with morality. This is an all out war and it's gaining grounds as it's gaining momentum.

The War rages on!

A Dirty Mind.

The main victim of this warfare is the mind and the outcome is a dirty mind.
Nowadays it is not only fashionable to confess to having a dirty mind but it is the popular trend - if you not in it then you need to catchup. Dirty is the new cool.

Sadly though, there's nothing cool about dirt or being dirty. If you have a dirty mouth (aka bad breath) will you be proud of it let alone flaunt it? If you have a dirty body (aka body odour) do you advertise it? The fact that you brush your teeth round the day, shop for the latest odour cleansing and eliminating mouthwash and chew gum all day just to mask your bad breath is enough proof that dirty ain't cool. Why maintain a dirty mind then? Why feed it with more dirt? Why don't you care to clean it up?

If what comes out of our lives is a product of what goes in then it follows that a dirty mind is a dirty life. True?

How dirty are you?

If minds smelt, would you be proud of the smell yours emits or would you have to launder it and mask it with a very strong all purpose deodorant and odour eliminator?


Victor or Victim.

That everyone is doing it doesn't make it right. There are people however, who have refused to be conquered.In fact there are those of us who were once prisoners but we did the real 'Great Escape' - we broke free! It doesn't matter if presently you've been conquered and a prisoner of war. It doesn't matter how wounded or damaged you are. You can still become a victor if you want to.

The mind, no matter how dirty, can still be renewed. Romans 12:2 KJV

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

As fierce as the battle may be, remember that the ultimate decision to surrender lies with you - it's your call and yours alone. No one can force you into submission against your will. No one can take you prisoner against your will. You become a victim by choice.

You have the option of refusing to watch, to listen to, to conform, to indulge, to be controlled, even if it's presented to you round the clock on a daily basis.

What's on your mind?

Are you hooked? You can get unhooked. Instead of doing the same old thing why not try something new and different? There are other things and better too. There are other ways to use the technology of your smartphone aside from sending, receiving and accessing pornography. There are other types of news, music and movies. There are other literary materials aside from Fifty Shades of Grey and the likes of it. There are other uses for social networking, video calls, webcam chats, etc.

Yes, there is another way.

Whatever your passion - fashion, beauty, poetry, writing, designing, speaking, fitness, healthy living, positive interactions and networking, meeting new people, learning about other cultures and peoples, history, arts, archeology, architecture, languages, charity, activism, human rights, etc - can find a positive nourishment, expression and fulfilment both online and offline. This would more than ensure that you have a clean mind, it will also give you a sense of achievement and purpose. It will reinvigorate your sense of self worth and will renew your self esteem. It will make you bolder and more confident - talk about the real Cool.

A Clean Mind.

It is possible to have a clean mind and to keep it clean. 2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV

In the battle for your mind you have divine assistance but the choice is yours whether or not to engage it. You also become a victor by choice.
