When You're The Topic of Conversations

Paul the Apostle had received a report concerning the saints at the Colossian church by one of the ministers. He told Paul about the saint’s faith in Christ, and their love towards one another. It was evident that the Holy Spirit had influence in their lives.

Bear in mind, what Paul had heard was by word of mouth. Then he told someone else, and from there, it soon became no secret about the saints at the Colossian church. Although this report was made of the church as a whole, each of us at some time or another will be the topic of discussion on somebody's lips, in regards to how we live, how we carry ourselves, and how we act towards others - whether we like it or not. The report may be told by someone you know and see every day, or by a stranger whom you may meet again someday.

As believers of Christ, your character is important. The word of God encourages us all to let our lights shine before men, that they may see our good works, and glorify our Father which is in heaven (Matthew 5:16). And I quote again "that they may see your good works." So whether you let your light shine or not, your life is a living epistle of what you represent, and who you represent wherever you go, especially when you are away from the sanctuary. You are an open book for all the world to see.

And like the people of the world who carry gossip about others, you too will be the topic of somebody's conversation or discussion. So then, live showing forth the praises of God, who has called you out of darkness and into the marvelous light (I Peter 2:9), to give them something good to talk about - to the praise, honor and glory of our God.
