2 – In large part, many of today’s ethical and moral issues are a result of poor leadership. Failure doesn’t happen in a moment. A life, a marriage, or an entire nation doesn’t crumble in a day. Long-term success or failure depends on an incremental change over time that brings about a staggering transformation. The key is for leaders to discourage instant gratification. Leaders make long-term decisions that strengthen themselves and their teams for the larger battle ahead.



3 – If you want your dream job to work, work hard at your day job! Bad employees are terrible dreamers. There isn’t a switch that we can hit when we clock out to make us transform into a world-class leader. If you’re sloppy now, you’ll be sloppy when you’re at your dream job. Leaders go above and beyond, they don’t complain, they think through the details, and they make quality products where they are now because their dream depends on it.



4 – Leaders recognize the power an apology has to strengthen the leadership office. At times leaders may say or do things that are difficult for their teams to digest. If not careful a leader can swell up with pride and risk compromising the impact of the office for those who will hold the position in the future. Taking the time to listen to your teams concerns and apologizing when a mistake has been made will display authenticity, bring credibility, and create an atmosphere of trust for the office the leader holds.



5 – Leaders know their weaknesses and are secure enough to let others lead the way to victory. Being able to allow others to lead in the areas that you are weak is a token of mature leadership. Being the leader does not mean that you have to control every detail. Acknowledge the strengths in the team around you and give them the opportunity to incorporate their ideas. You’ll find that they will often take the team to a whole new level.



6 – Leaders remain calm. The demanding pressure of results coupled with immaturity and a lack of self-control is a recipe for disaster. Leaders must understand that maintaining their composure in the midst of chaos is key for ushering in the necessary security for a team to function. Allowing team members to see the leader behaving like a cool glass of Carolina sweet-tea creates the comfort and respect that will cause them to believe that their leader is competent and secure enough to lead them to victory!
