Which kind of peace?

Each morning I face a choice. Will I seek the world’s peace today, found by using my head, and defined by wealth, status, power, speed and appearances? Or will I seek God’s peace, which is found by using my heart, and defined by acceptance, simplicity, meekness, intimacy with the Holy Spirit, and loving others?

The world’s peace is about stimulating your senses, comparing yourself to others, and control. God’s peace is about finding joy in the smallest of things, gratefully celebrating each moment as a gift from God, and letting God be in control of your life. The world’s peace is sought looking through the eyes in your head, God’s peace is sought looking through the eyes of your heart (yes, you have them).

So when I rise from sleep, to which part of my body will I direct my attention, and from which part of my body will I get my sense of identity and direction – from my head or from my heart? Which kind of peace do I really want?


"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. -Mathew 6:19-21
