Miracle In The Window
Back in 2003 we had a life change for our family.
One that none of us will ever forget. Our Father
was diagnosed with kidney cancer and had only
5 months to live. Dad chose not to tell us the time
line because he told us he did not want us all to
feel sorry and sad with the time he had left. But
there was one thing that Dad wanted from all us
kids, the one thing he enjoyed more than anything
was to go Branson Mo. It was one of his favorite
places. So we all went...us four kids and all our kids.
We had a wonderful time but Dad was hurting so bad
that we never realized how much pain he was in until
much much later.
Well after the trip the doctors had scheduled his surgery
to remove the kidney. And with all the prayers it all went
very well. In fact the doctors told us that were sure they
had gotten it all. Praise God, He had taken care of Dad
just as we had prayed. So a couple of weeks went by
and Dad seemed at first to be getting along very well.
The doctors wanted to do a few chemo treatments just
to be sure they killed the microscopic cells that might
still be there. So they scheduled the first treatment.
As Dad and Nancey (our stepmom) was getting ready
to walk out the door to go to the hospital....they called
and said that Medicare would not pay for those treatments.
But they would go ahead and do the radiation treatments.
So they did. And Dad came back home. Praise God!
Well I remember one morning Nancey called and wanted
all of us kids to come right away to the house. That Dad
had fallen the night before and she and our little sister Angie
had to get him back up. Well our Dad was a very Big man,
6 foot 6 and 230 pounds and had never been sick a day in
his life. And he was very stubborn and refused to go back
to the hospital by ambulance. So Nancey thought if we all
was there and talked to him we would convince him that was
the way to go. And it worked but our big brother had to do a lot
of talking. So we called the ambulance. It was a very hard thing
for all of us to watch if pull into the driveway knowing it was going
to take our Dad back to the hospital. Only this time he would not
be coming back home to us.
Well Dad was in the hospital for 30 days doing this treatment and
that treatment, but nothing was working. He was in ICU and the
nurses were constantly coming in. Dad was never alone, there was
always someone with him. I remember one night my sister and I was
staying and the nurse had come in to change locations on his IV
because of his veins getting so weak. They tried and tried to get the
new IV in but could not find a vein....and oh so much pain for him to endure.
Connie and I cried and asked them if they could please do something
else. He could not stand that pain anymore. So they ended up putting
in a Port the following morning so they would not have to stick him again
for the medicine he needed. But Dad never complained and he never
cried....such a strong strong man. Then I remember the night before
he died we all stayed and laid on the hard cold floor just so we could all
be near him. My niece had been there that day and she had told her mom
that it was time for all of us to tell Dad it was okay to go home....that we
would miss him but we would all see him again someday. Hardest thing
I have ever done. But each one of us held his hand and told him goodbye.
Dad could not respond to us but we all believe he heard our every word.
It was so hard to watch him everyday get weaker and weaker. But we kept
praying and trusting that God would heal him and restore him and let him
come home to us.
Prayer after Prayer
continued to go up to our Father in Heaven and we all Trusted and
Believed that Dad would recover. But God had a different Plan for
Dad. You see God knows the purpose we are all here on earth, and
He know when our purpose is fulfilled even tho we can never
understand it. But Dad's purpose was done here and God chose
to take him home.
The day Dad went home was a very gloomy day....overcast and rainy
no sunshine, nothing but gloom. But Dad held on until all his family
was there and we had all said our goodbyes.
As we all gathered around his bed....Dad took his last breath
and was gone. As we all stood around him crying so hard the
sun came shining through that big window and shone across Dad's body.
Oh how Peaceful he looked and I remember my oldest brother saying
the Angels have come to take Dad home....my what a beautiful moment.
Then the clouds came again....But we knew Dad was in Heaven.
He had no more pain....no more suffering....no more heartache.
Daddy's Home with Jesus!!
So you see God does perform those Miracles but sometimes they
are not the ones we ask for.....but Better....Daddy's Home!!
