A Question to Ponder

Who would you say initiates in your life…you or God? When you make decisions about what you do, where you live, what friends you have…, who guides your choices? Is it just you or is God in the mix speaking to you and directing you? Unless we intentionally listen for His voice, we may not even be aware that He is leading, but God not only loves to initiate, He is invested in leading and guiding us into His plans.

Do you recall what Jesus said over and over in the book of John? “…For I did not speak on My own initiative but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak…I have not even come on My own initiative…I can do nothing on My own initiative….” (Jn.5:30, 8:28, 8:42, 12:49, 14:10)

When our grand daughter, Laura, was a junior in college, her dorm roommate was a P.A. Because of that, Laura knew there would be many freshmen women coming and going in her room. Being an outgoing person, she looked at this as an opportunity to get to know some of the girls herself.

As she prayed about the upcoming semester, she asked the Lord to give her the name of a girl that He would like her to spend time with, someone she could possibly mentor. The name Hannah immediately came to mind, so she began to watch for a Hannah on her floor. Within the first week on campus, two girls found their way to her room and as you may have guessed, they were both named Hannah. Because Laura had received such a specific word from the Lord, she was watching for an answer and was now in position to cooperate with Him as He unfolded His plans for these new relationships.

Life is an adventure when we trust God to guide our path. Ps. 31:3 “For You are my rock and my fortress; For Your name’s sake You will lead me and guide me.”

I really enjoyed this. I love the faith of your granddaughter. As I'm preparing to become a grandmother in May, I pray for my granddaughter to have that kind of wisdom and to have God guide me through guiding my granddaughter.
