Marriage

Trevor and Miranda enjoyed the rest of their time in Rome. They looked at all of the paintings and sculptures that Miranda wanted to see and also went to many Italian restaurants and an opera. They even went to the Mediterranean Sea and swam in it for a while. They were thankful that the waves were not rough. They made sure to take many photos to show them to their parents when they arrived home.

When they got back to Los Angeles after their honeymoon, Trevor immediately returned to his job as an orderly at the hospital at which Miranda's father, Richard, had helped him to get a job. Miranda, who didn't go back to college for a little while, would stay home and clean the house and cook dinner. One night when Trevor got home, he groaned, went to the couch, and flopped down on it. "I am so tired," he moaned, "and I ache all over! I can't tell you how many wheelchairs I had to push and how far I had to walk some of the time! Then someone who was carrying a meal to one of the patients accidentally dropped the tray on my toe! Someone else at work left a cabinet open, and by then it was the end of the day and I must have been so tired I didn't even see it, and it bumped me in the head! Oh, could a day be any worse?"

Miranda came into the living room and began to massage his feet and his head. "My poor baby," she said. "You just sit right there with your feet up, and I'll bring you some ice for your toe and your head."

Trevor held her hand. "Thank you, sweetheart," he said. "And you know, Miranda, there's also something wrong with my lips and my neck."

"There is? What?" Miranda asked, concerned.

"Well," Trevor said with a grin, "your lips aren't on my lips, and your arms aren't around my neck."

Miranda smiled and kissed Trevor's lips and wrapped her arms around his neck. Trevor stroked Miranda's long, black hair and held her tightly for a while, then kissed her lips, her forehead, her cheeks, her nose, and her hand. "I love you," he said.

"I love you, too, Trevor," Miranda said. "I'll be right back." She went into the kitchen and got two ice packs, one for Trevor's toe and one for his head.

"Thanks," Trevor said, taking the ice packs and applying them. Once his toe and head felt better, he sat up on the couch. "Now there's something wrong with my lap," he said to Miranda.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

"My beautiful wife isn't sitting on it," he said.

Miranda smiled and sat on Trevor's lap and wrapped her arms around his neck again. She leaned her head on his shoulder.

"I miss you when you're at work," she said.

"I miss you when I'm at work, too," Trevor told her. "It's days at work like this that I really can't wait to get off, and it's you who makes me never be able to wait to come home."
