De-cluttering

My desk at home is usually a mound of papers, notes, junk mail, to-do lists, hardware from half-done home repair projects and miscellaneous other items. Too often my life feels the same- cluttered with unimportant things, mundane tasks and routine chores of all kinds. After living too many days like that I begin to feel useless and empty.

Yesterday I cleaned up my desk. Tonight my clean desk looked inviting, so I made myself a cup of tea, put some smooth jazz on Pandora and sat down to write this. I thought about today - I worked my on-call job helping people with severe mental illness- I walked out of there feeling useful and filled. After work a light rain was followed by a full rainbow, and in a Cub Foods parking lot I stood with others staring up at the miracle in the sky, a sign of God’s love and faithfulness.

All kinds of things can become cluttered - desks, homes, relationships, schedules, hearts and minds. Do you need to do a little de-cluttering, to get rid of whatever stands between you and the rainbows in your life?
