Christmas is only a few days away and the malls are bustling with shoppers picking out those last minute gifts. There is a delicious holiday spread to shop for and prepare, and of course the tree and house need to be decorated.

Yes, Christmas is a special time of year, and hopefully all your wishes come true, but too often we forget the real reason for the Christmas celebration, which is the birth of Christ. How can we keep Christ in Christmas? Mix in some new holiday activities this year that keep Christ at the forefront of your celebration.

Attend Church Services

Most churches have Christmas Eve services, so make a new tradition by bringing the whole family to worship. As the congregation sings Christmas carols, meditate on the meaning of each song, and how it relates to the true meaning of Christmas.

Birthday Cake

It’s tradition to celebrate a birthday for that special loved one with cake, and who is more special than Christ? Have fun customizing a cake with gospel verses and bright colors.

Nativity Play

Get the whole family involved and assign parts. Kids love to dress in costume and can play shepherds, angels, or animal characters, and a doll can be used for the baby Jesus.

Caroling

It’s not only fun to raise your voices in song, but you can also be an inspiration to others that are shut-ins or in nursing homes. Bring little gifts to pass out and tie on a Bible verse with pretty ribbon. What a special way to keep Christ in Christmas!

God’s Blessings

Before opening gifts or eating the holiday meal, give thanks to Christ for your many blessings. Have each person name something they are thankful for this year. Don’t forget to thank Him for the greatest gift of all- the gift of Christmas.
