When I looked up the word "abundance in the dictionary, there were several definitions, but the one that jumped out on me read, "to have a large quantity of something." I had always pictured someone who was living in abundance as having a lot of money, a big house, and fancy cars.
2 Corinthians 9:8 (NIV), tells us what God has promised regarding abundance: And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. This verse doesn't promise that we will receive everything we desire, but that God will supply every necessary need.
One way to experience abundance is to freely give of yourself and your possessions to God. When you are spiritually obedient to God, He will meet your needs abundantly. It doesn't matter if you are serving God in a land of great wealth, or a poverty-stricken country.
When you step out in faith and give back to God, He blesses you with more abundance to give back to others and the giving cycle begins. Proverbs 11:24 (NIV): One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but come to poverty.
Remember that everything in the universe belongs to God, and as His faithful stewards, we are to manage the blessings that He gives us and bring glory to His name.
