She wanted me to help her escape from the hospital. She said she wanted to die at home. I was just a kid visiting an old friend of my parents, and hadn't expected this. But I helped her into her clothes and wheeled her out of the hospital - she died a short time later.

Death seems to catch so many people unprepared, as if they didn't think it was ever going to happen to them. And though we may suffer physically during the dying process, as believers in the risen Jesus we can look forward to our soul’s journey to heaven, and make preparations for that day. One way to prepare is to give going-away presents, gifts of love that speak of the hope that we have. Since none of us know exactly when we’ll be leaving, wouldn't today be a good day to get started?

Here are some ideas to help you get started on your gift-giving…
- Buy or do something extravagant for someone else
- Form a habit of doing random acts of kindness
- Thank someone you've never thanked before
- Give someone a vacation from something
- Forgive a family member or friend
- Do something nice for yourself
- Give a fun surprise party
- Volunteer at a charity
- Let go of regrets
- Pray for others
- Laugh more
- Smile
- Be
