Expanding on Question 2 from Challenge 33 :

"If we say we do not believe in God:

2.       Should we engage in debates or argue with those who do not share our belief?

No, I do not believe that we should argue about a belief we do not have an understanding of. Arguing would be futile as we have no base/foundation for our arguments. Neither can we have a debate for how can we debate a topic we have no knowledge of?

What I believe is that (depending on the situation and the risks attached) we can agree to disagree or we can decide to get an understanding of that belief in order to have a healthy debate and at some point come back to the drawing board and make a decision to either, agree, disagree or come to a compromise. The process of obtaining such knowledge will also be a challenge therefore the timing of such debate would be at a date appropriate for the individual who needs to gain such understanding. 

What then happens to the relationship during that process?

Life is still moving on and some things cannot wait. Therefore, in the interim, a decision still has to be made on whether both sides agree to disagree or come to a compromise.
