When I worked in the horticultural industry, we erected greenhouses in expectation that we would have the ability to control the environment and protect our plants from adverse weather conditions. A greenhouse is your own little micro-environment that you can manage; therefore regardless of the external conditions, you can still expect to obtain a harvest.
Israel is a major exporter of fresh produce and a world-leader in agricultural technologies, yet only 20% of the land area is naturally arable. Israel produces 95% of its own food requirements. They have a lot of greenhouses to be able to achieve this.

Concerning matters of the faith, your natural environment will rarely be conducive to your expectation. When you receive a letter from an important person, stating that he will pay you a visit, hope is created - but what tells us that you have expectation is the preparations you will make for his arrival. Similarly, the Word of God is His letter to us, giving us hope for many wonderful things, but the arrangements we carry out upon receiving this Word speak volumes about our expectation of the same.

To expect something means that there is a strong likelihood, even a certainty, that the event is going to happen. Our expectation is that period between the moment of believing and the manifestation of the answer.

Perhaps you feel like you’re in a desert; the environment is not favorable. I encourage you to read the Letter again and when you find hope, go a step further in putting up the ‘greenhouse’ as your expectation for your harvest, so that any adverse external conditions will not interfere with your faith. Neither pest nor pestilence will affect you negatively because you’re sheltered – and no matter what, you hope, and therefore expect, to receive. (Psalm 91:1-16 NIV)
