Attaining Glory Through Temptation
© 2014

by

Stephen A. Peterson
Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

James 1:12 (NIV)

“Attaining glory through temptation! What?” most would respond. Some of us forget that Jesus was tempted but did not fall to human weakness.

Humanity is equated to weakness—some of us more than others, but there is frailty in every living person. This indicates each and every person must vigilant against temptation. When faced with temptation and one overcomes it, it makes that person stronger. If it is not dealt with successfully, that person is made weaker and much more susceptible to more serious, damaging temptations.

Every temptation presents an opportunity to acquire strength, character, and virtue—if one prevails. If there are no temptations in the world, there could be no attainment through testing and there could be no legitimate claim to virtue. It is without question, those who successfully struggle with temptations and conquer what tempts them are stronger, usually wiser and a valuable example to us all. He/She is a conqueror to be admired.

Prayer:

Almighty Father, I am unable to stand alone in this world against the temptations that attack me all day long every day. Be with me when temptations come. Walk with me, protect me, strengthen me to make me a better person. Guide my thoughts, words, deeds and actions, O my God! These things I humbly pray. Amen.
