Plowing her way through the bare shrubs she stood panting in the darkness, icy snow lay in brilliant contrast to the shadowy trees that seemed to reach out to grab at her. High atop one such tree a demon perched. A silent laughter shook his decaying flesh. 'Look at where we have her,' he whispered to his evil companion. 'That guard.....we need to be rid of him' the second grumbled, a troubled look past over his gruesome face. 'No worries,' the first announced almost cheerfully, 'she is very discouraged and cannot see him.' 'She has believed everything you have told her'.....'you have told her everything haven't you?' He gave a sideways glance at his young counter part. 'Oh yes everything you told me to say.' He answered quickly. 'Good, good....you learn quickly young one,' a sick smile played on his crusty lips. Down below, "the Guard" worked quickly, unseeing arms pulled her close and little by little warmth returned to her frozen heart. The Guard smiled tenderly as he watched her eyes open wide with the realization that he was near. Above them two pairs of yellowed eyes watched in helpless terror as her small hand reached out in faith and touched loving reality.
