Everyone hates being taken for granted, right? Like when you start and keep doing good, and after some time people (tend to) forget to appreciate what you’re doing… till we lose interest and stop. Having stopped, they realize that we “seem” to have changed “in their eyes”, and in some cases they start judging us. Nobody likes having that feeling of being taken for granted, it causes some to change (in a negative way); everyone wants to be appreciated in some way or the other.
You know, sometimes, or most times, we take God for granted the same way. We fail to appreciate Him, firstly as Our Creator, Father, Savior, and Comforter; as our Protector, Provider, Healer, and so on. We treat God like He’s doing us a favor by keeping us safe, providing for us, healing us e.t.c forgetting that all that we are and have are in His hands and He can do anything with it without being questioned; because He is GOD.
We also take God for granted whenever we put other people (or things) before Him, forgetting that the life we live isn’t ours or theirs, but God’s. Putting God first isn’t just about praying to God and giving thanks to Him being the first thing you do every morning. Its more about seeking God first every morning, studying His Word, waiting on Him for His counsels (ever true), acknowledging Him in all your ways; Putting God’s needs before yours, asking yourself “What would Jesus do?” before every action you take/ reaction you make. Let’s be honest, judging ourselves based on this, we’re all guilty of taking God for granted, right? Same here, I won’t deny it either, may God have mercy on us.
God’s Mercy, Grace, Strength, Patience, Love e.t.c these are things we take for granted too. Take His Mercy and Strength for example. Paraphrasing Romans 9:16 and Philippians 4:13, “All things we accomplish are done by God’s Mercy and Strength” not because we luckily made an attempt, or we’re bad like that. Yet we sometimes forget this whenever we accomplish goals, tasks or dreams; we fail to acknowledge and thank God for seeing us through, sharing His Glory with another, and in some cases giving Him no Glory at all.. not cool!
Every Christian, after getting born-again was called out of darkness (bondage of sin and death) into light, to be a light to the world. In this world, every Christian is called out to spread God’s message of Love, Hope, Faith, Peace, His Gospel. God called you out to set a godly standard for your generation, and that through your lifestyle, others may see The Good and Perfect Work of Salvation. That’s God’s plan/ opinion of how He wants us to live our lives, but many Christians don’t follow it neglecting/ ignoring what He said in Jeremiah 29:11.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the purposes which I am purposing for you, says Jehovah; purposes of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
We sometimes live our lives like God’s opinion (about us) doesn’t count, like He’s just saying His own, even though we never want to be treated that way. Everyone likes it when they can voice out their opinion, knowing that others will see the good sense in what’s been said, and acknowledge it. If we expect others to treat our opinions as such, how much more should we treat God’s. I mean He’s The Maker of All things, The Alpha and The Omega, The Author and The Finisher of our faith, Ever Truthful and Good, isn’t that enough reason to acknowledge God’s plans/ instructions. Even though His plans may sometimes sound bizarre, just trust Him, His instructions are ever life- leading, never misleading, and don’t forget that God works in mysterious ways.
God’s like us (or the other way round), He has feeling too. Think of how much you want to be respected… now multiply it by the largest number you can think of, gotten your answer? That’s how much we’re supposed to honor, respect and acknowledge God, not just with your mouths, but more importantly through our lifestyle. At least if your voice is not good enough, your lifestyle can always sing sweetly to Him.
