Salvation, the renewal or transformation of the spirit, soul and body, that we may become perfect and “totally acceptable” to God. Salvation is putting away the old sinful nature- that has corrupted and dismembered us from the Perfect Body of Christ- and putting on the new creature. (2 Corinthians 5:17). Salvation is a 3-step staircase leading to God’s Throne.
Though the salvation of your spirit is immediate (when you confess(ed) and believe(d) that Jesus Christ died an rose again for your sins {Romans 10:9-10}); the salvation of your soul and body are gradual. The latter 2 happen as you do away with the old sinful creature and embrace the new; growing deeper in love with Christ as you walk and labor with Him. Sadly, a few are ignorant of these, stopping at the salvation of the Spirit; their faith isn’t rooted in God’s Love; some of these end up in hell because they might eventually backslide. (Revelations 3:16).
Your soul comprises 3 things, your will, mind and your emotions. For you to attain salvation of it, you must have the Kingdom of God within you .i.e. righteousness in your will, peace in your mind and joy in your emotions, under the influence of Holy Ghost). This isn’t a one-time process, but a daily and gradual one (2 Corinthians 4:16).
While studying my bible, I realized that (as revealed to me) salvation has 3 symbolisms; a Shield, a Helmet and a Garment.
Salvation as a Shield (Psalm 18:35)
Salvation simply means to protect or save, and that’s the work of a shield to a soldier or fighter, to protect his body. This was what happened when we got born-again, we were set free from bondage of iniquity/sin and death; we were saved from hell... But don’t let being born again just be a title you got when you were set free, but the beginning of your journey to be like your King (God).
Salvation as a Helmet (Ephesians 6:17)
A helmet serves to guard the head; and the head is where the mind is located (connected to the will and the emotions). In this context, I guess it’s alright to say that Ephesians 6:17 was talking about the salvation of your mind. The Salvation of your mind is a pre-requisite for you to boldly and strongly stand against the evil ones. Without it you can’t be righteous, be Truthful, you can’t have faith, spread the Gospel of Peace; and you can’t have The Spirit of God dwelling in you, or be led by It. That’s why we’re beseeched in Romans12:2 to have our minds renewed (daily). We do this by studying, keeping, doing and meditating on God’s Word daily; submitting to and obeying that sweet small voice that speaks in our minds diligently; and by cleansing your mind by the blood of Jesus, that you may draw life and power from God to do His Will.
Salvation as a garment (Matthew 22:2-14)
Down the years, whenever I read this story, I said to myself “the poor man was judged cruelly”. But then it dawned on me recently that that was the Kingdom of God, and the garment to be worn was the garment of Righteousness/ Salvation, total salvation of your spirit, soul and body (Revelations 19:8). Matthew 22:13 says “Many are called, but few are chosen”, the many who are called are symbolic of those who receive(d) the salvation of their spirit; while the few who are chosen are symbolic of those who continue till they attain the salvation of their soul and body. “The few” overcome the sin nature, totally putting away the old creature, they’ve been faithful to the end with that which they were given, have borne fruits of the spirit and of their labor with Christ, like Jesus, they learn (to) and do walk in love. These ones are chosen because they “willingly” decided to pick up the cross and diligently follow Christ…. They are the overcomers (Revelations 3:5, 2:7,11,17,26, 3:12,21).
In case you haven’t noticed yet, the 3 symbolisms of salvation in the bible, “shield, helmet and garment) represent the salvation of the spirit, soul and body, respectively. So please don’t stop at just giving your life to Christ, but Run! Run the race (fast, but diligently and patiently) until you are approved by God as a faithful steward and like Christ, Perfect.
Soon, the marriage of The Lamb will take place, so go get your garments of salvation/ righteousness ready (Revelations 19:7-8). Trust me you don’t want to miss it, or your inheritance, or reward of eternal life, amongst others… His Grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 12:9).
