“My Own Special People” (1 Peter 9)

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

More than ever before, there are many things happening in the nations of the world which grieve the heart of God. We live in a time already written about by the Old Testament prophets who said “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil” (Isaiah 5:20). However, in the midst of all the confusion on the earth, our Lord looks at those He calls His own and He smiles! Today He wants us to remember who we are – the blood bought remnant and His own special people. Hear these words to you from Him and absorb them into the depths of your heart:

“From before the dawning of time I saw you, I knew you, and I called you to be Mine. You did not choose Me – I chose you. (John 15:16). I chose you to be My special friend and to walk in the purposes of My Kingdom (Isaiah 43:10). I chose you to live a fruitful life (John 15:16) and to hear the secrets of My heart (Psalm 25:14). Before you were even conceived in your mother’s womb, I had chosen you and appointed you for the richness of My love (Jeremiah 1:5). You are precious and so distinct, and a vital part of my special, set-apart generation, my worshipers who love Me and walk with Me. In the past, the people of the priestly clan of Levi were dedicated to serve Me, but today, you are My Levites. You are joint heirs with Me, the new royalty. You are the new holiness movement who (with love) set the captives free. You are bold and strong and filled with power, because you have been so translated from the kingdom of darkness into My light in this hour. Wherever you go, you carry the light with you because you are in Me and I am in you. I shine right through you for all the world to see. There is a reason why you often feel you do not belong where you are – you are a citizen of the kingdom of light. The darkness tries to hide when you are around and to keep you out, but you are where I placed you. I am flowing through you. You are special and precious and beautiful in My sight; pure and powerful and filled with My heavenly light. You have been marked with My blood forever, and nothing can take you from My side.”


There is a holy purpose for your life. Dear friend, there is so much of powerful purpose in the calling you and I have. We have been chosen for such a time as this. Decide that you will no more look at the circumstances around you and feel oppressed or defeated. You are a worshiper. You are royalty. You have been set apart by the King, to stand before Him on behalf of those around you, and to be a bearer of His heart. His love overflows for the ones who are lost and cannot see, and you are His holy hands and feet to break people out of captivity.

You have been called into the marvelous light. Whatever may have happened in the past, the blood of Jesus cleansed you and you now live in God’s heavenly light. The past is dead and has no hold over you unless you allow it to rule your life today. Jesus is the light of the world and He calls you the same. You are holy and precious in His sight. You were instantly translated from the Kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ! So shake off the spirit of condemnation today, dear friend, and refuse to listen to the voice of the enemy who tries to keep you down. You were called to sing the praises of Jesus and live in His love. You are the light of the world. (Jesus said so - Matthew 5:14)!

You are not alone. You may have been feeling like the odd one out in your place of work, your college or in your neighborhood; but God wants to remind you that you are a part of a vibrant and living holy generation. There are other believers out there like you, in love with Jesus, and living for Him. He will bring you into contact with other members of the tribe if you ask Him to, but in the meantime, be who you are and do not allow the enemy to snuff out your Light. You are not a solitary flame in the darkness. No! You are a member of a whole generation who serves and worships Jesus, and a vast tribe of prophets and priests. He is the King over the Kingdom. He is the ruler of the universe! He lives in you, so you are really very strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

May this week be especially filled with the presence and power of Jesus, and remember that you are His very special and much loved chosen child!
