Jesus as the Vine


Professing Christians are as branches which must abide in the Vine, i. e., Jesus, or else they can not bear any fruit. What is the doom of the unfruitful? They are taken away and cast into the fire. What does fire represent? Hell fire and destruction. (Matthew 5:32; 13:30; Mark 9:43-48) There's no such thing as unfruitful Christians. That's an oxymoron cultivated by false teachers and false churches. So by this teaching of Jesus who calls Himself the True Vine we see that we must abide in Him and produce fruit or else we are good for nothing but destruction just like a withered branch which brings forth no fruit. The fruit we must produce is found in Galatians 5:22-23 " But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23. Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

Thus we see by the Vine metaphor that salvation is in view and is absolutely necessary.


Jesus as the Door


In John 10:9 Jesus calls Himself the Door by way of metaphor. At first glance we might not think that a door is necessary for salvation but it is. Jesus said, " I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture."

Note the word saved. He shall be saved. Is this not salvation? What does a door do? It opens and closes and provides the way into another area. What area does Jesus lead us into? He leads us into the sheepfold where the sheep find pasture. Christ is the door of the sheep (v. 9): By me as the door, if any man enter into the sheepfold, as one of the flock, he shall be saved; shall not only be safe from thieves and robbers (the many false shepherds/pastors) but the lion which is the Devil. "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour" 1 Peter 5:8

Here are, First, plain directions how to come into the fold: we must come in by Jesus Christ as the door. By faith in him, as the great Mediator between God and man, we come into covenant and communion with God.

The house can also be seen as heaven. Jesus said, "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you." John 14:2

If we wish to enter heaven we must enter by Jesus who is the Door. There is no other way because Jesus said in John 14:7 "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; nobody comes to the Father but by me." Many seek to enter this door but were deceived and enter hell instead for there are many false Christs (Matthew 24:24) "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect."

Many churches today offer these false signs and wonders by falling backwards, and handling venomous snakes, and speaking in tongues etc. Be not deceived! Eat the true doctrine which the Father gives in His Son Jesus Christ and so live.
