Marriage

I was remembering the pot on the deck that had once held a plant, but was now just filled with dirt...that was emptied into the flowerbed.... and how that reminded me of our love.

The mound of dirt just lay there in the yard...seeming to be nothing, having no purpose - certainly having no beauty.... and that was like I was before we met.... feeling like my life had been discarded, left on the sidelines.... alone and having no purpose.... but then we met.

One day in passing you looked at that small mound of dirt, and out of the center of it was a tiny green leaf.... what was thought to be dead and useless had harbored life all along.

And as we spoke and got to know one another, you gently nurtured that little leaf of hope inside my heart...your words of encouragement watered it...like that tiny leaf, it grew stronger and as time passed, the friendship grew into love.

You gathered that mound of dirt, and re-planted it in a new pot.... watered it with care, and set it where the sunshine would warm it and help it grow.... and it did.

Our love flourished, and we knew we were meant to always be together.... and we married, and our relationship was rooted in a new pot, leaving the old behind, and basking in the sunshine of new possibilities...and it flourished.

That tiny leaf in the new pot became a tall, strong plant, and bloomed with the most beautiful yellow flowers, like cups held up to be filled with God's grace.

Our love is like that every day...a strong, vibrant plant, blooming unceasingly in the Son-shine...our cups filled with love, and running over with grace...a joy forever!
