I was thinking of the process I go through to make soap.... and it brought to mind how very much like our love that is.

When you go to a store to buy this most ordinary of staples, most of our decision is based on the outward appearance...the pretty color, or the nice fragrance.... or even the glossy packaging.... and we never really give a thought to what went into it.... and this so often is how the world views love...mostly on outward appearance, based solely on how others view us, and the proper packaging that it is boxed in.

Oh, but our love started with the raw ingredients...and the Master artist who knows just what combination will be perfect for His plan...He took the two of us...like the solid chunks of raw soap...that had no fragrance or color.... but were just the right ingredients.... and He melted them down, mingling them together until they became one.

Just as when we first met, we spent so much time just getting to know one another.... eagerly awaiting the next message, the next phone call, the next opportunity to just be with each other...and each step we took was melting our two hearts into one...until we knew what Jesus knew all along...we could not bear to be apart...we were meant to be one couple, not two individuals.

Once the soap is melted and warm...it now can accept the scent and color...the powdered color will only dissolve in the warmth of the liquid soap, and the scent can only diffuse evenly because it is fluid...just as we each brought our own unique things to add to our relationship...we colored our soap with vibrant shades of love, and scented it with the heady fragrance of peace and prayer.

Only then, after all the ingredients have been mixed together and become one with each other, can the soap then be poured into a mold and given it's final shape...and we take our love, and each day we pour it into a different shape...some fancy...some not...for each day is different.... but no matter what the shape of our 'soap-day’ is...no matter what kind of outside things come into it...we know that the true meaning and beauty is only released when we use it up...for that is the wonder of this kind of soap....that each day it is new...each day we have more to give one another...each day the scent is headier, the color is deeper...and we are complete in His peace.
