A man in the Kingdom

And Daniel continued unto the first year of king Cyrus, Daniel 1:21.

One psychological pain that may be difficult to bear for a while or a very long time is to be ignored. It is painful when husband or wife ignores their spouse, parents ignore their children, when students ignore their teacher or teachers ignore the students who seriously yearn for knowledge. It will be pain difficult to bear for a person that was once important in the society, company or organization, who is always consulted over every matter or most matters if is presently being ignored and someone else is considered more relevant instead. Such pains are difficult for most people. It has resulted into many evil vices, crimes and inspired envies.

Certainly, it is very unlikely for a man that is stagnant in an area or field of endeavor or service to escape being ignored, when grown out of relevance. Some people are just blessed with temporary fame and accompanied by a volatile honor. The ease at which some can be substituted is one way to measure the magnitude and life expectancy of such people’s relevance.

The desperate struggle, activities, desires and actions of many people are either to buy fame, obtain, or sustain relevance. This search is behind the need of some people to obtain certificates, pursue titles and acquire names. Many have been able to acquire temporary or permanent relevance in the field of study, society and group of people.

History has many compartments for stories of men based on the relevance, negative or positive. While some lives, services and labour are frequently called out of history, and consulted so often, some will forever kept in the archive of history in the “irrelevant column”. One thrilling truth is that some people’s relevance are seasonal while some are timeless.
A man outlive four generation of kings. Every generation had no one reason to push him off the stage of relevance and recognition. There was always a need to call him on the stage to offer some solutions. He won’t struggle for position, scheme for recognition, audience, respect and reward but he cannot be ignored in all these four dispensation of a kingdom and generation of kings. His services were always necessary and relevant.

In a very confusing moment in the palace, a man called Daniel who was prominent in the previous kingdom was always consulted. He had to be brought based on recommendation to provide solution for the present problem.

“there is a man in thy kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods was found in him; whom the king Nebuchardnezzar thy father, the king, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, chaldeans and soothsayer ” Daniel 5:11.

When Darius came to power after overthrowing the successor of Nebuchadnezzar, it was necessary to have one hundred and twenty presidents to coordinate the entire kingdom, Daniel was among.
Three among them were superior, Daniel was still among. One of these three must be the overall coordinating president, Daniel was preferred. What was the secret of this man relevance?
Does the location of this man determine his relevance? He was a slave whose principle does not flow in the tide of the crowd. In fact, he won’t be attracted by the popular diet most people called delicious and affiliated with enjoyment. “ But Daniel sat at the gate of the king” Daniel 2:49. What is the relationship between an event and relevance? Established relevance is beyond the making of an event, it is more of a product of some actions, attitude, attributes, all supervised by diligence, prudence and favour. Daniel rejected the offer of the crowd ,embraced simplicity and that does not defile his preparation; despite this, Daniel and his colleagues were ten times better, Daniel 1:8. Intelligence, position and social classification will not be enough to give a person an established and consistent relevance that even outlive him. And whoever have relationship with mediocrity and hypocrisy cannot also have such an established relevance that Daniel possessed.

Some people think by giving their utterance the tone of boasting, they can establish relevance in the heart of men. Some thought by copying lifestyle of a great man, speak as they speak and operate by their principles will gain them established relevance. While some think that employing advertisement skill will engrave their relevance in the heart and history of man. It does not work that way! Established relevance or timeless relevance is a cumulative effort of principal factor, purposefulness, excellent spirit, diligence, truthfulness, knowledge of God, relationship with God and unalloyed presence of God.

Relevance is accompanied by recognition, respect, reward, remembrance, readability, all these have tendency to grow, thus relevance grows and can fall out of existence, depending on the attitude
Daniel’s life was such a unique study in this regard because he was found of providing permanent solution to problem of his generation. He could connect with previous promises (past), proffer solution for the present and make provision for the future-“the principle of established relevance”.

Good and services that can connect with the benefit of the past, meet the needs of the moment and provide solution, for the subsequent future cannot but be relevant in whatever form they are presented.
