WHAT WOULD BE YOUR LEGACY
A legacy is what you leave behind after you have gone. It is something you have enjoyed while you are here and you could not finish it. You leave it behind when you are going because you do not need anymore. When Elisha was alive, he enjoyed power, because of this power, he was welcomed in palaces, in the house of Generals and everywhere. He was going to rest and he did not need the power so he had to leave the power behind.
What are you going to leave behind when you leave this world? Some people left debts behind for their children. Some people left curses for their children. In Genesis 22:15-18, God told Abraham that he would bless him and through his seed, all he nations of the world would be blessed. It means that alive, Abraham would enjoy blessings and even after his death, they would be so much blessing left behind for generation unborn to partake of.
In Deuteronomy, 34:9, The Bible says that Moses transferred the spirit of wisdom that he had to Joshua. Moses enjoyed wisdom when he was alive and when he was about to leave, he transferred it to Joshua. When Joshua was about to leave, he left something for his children. He was so devoted to God that he made sure that after he had left, his children would remain devoted to God. He said in Joshua 24: 15 “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD”.
In Acts 13:22-23, we are told that David was such a friend of God that the friendship was transferred to all his children. God said He had found a man after His own heart. Bartimaeus called Jesus Son of David. When Elijah was about to go, he dropped his mantle for Elisha.
When Jesus Christ was going, He left behind very many things. He left His Name. He drained himself of His blood so that the blood will be available today, not only to cleanse us from sins but also to defeat Satan for us. He left behind His peace. He gave us His Word that is the truth, which will make us free. In John 14:15-18 He said he would not leave us comfortless. He left us with the Holy Spirit.
