Do you feel like you are bowed down or bent over emotionally? Do you feel distressed with problems that seem to continue with no end in sight, and you want to scream, "Enough is enough?" The Bible speaks to this issue. Psalm 88:3 says "Incline Thine ear to my cry! For my soul has had enough troubles."

There is good news, however. You can be encouraged by Psalm 145:14. "The Lord sustains all who fall, And raises up all who are bowed down." Too many people are emotionally bowed down or bent over looking at all of their problems, but how does one get moving again? Picture a runner getting ready for a race. Even though his or her body is bowed low, their head is raised up focused on the finish line. However, it is hope in God that lifts the head in times of adversity, distress, and depression, as the following passages of Scripture express.

"But Thou, O Lord, art a shield about me. My glory, and the One who lifts my head." Psalm 3:3

"Make glad the soul of Thy servant, For to Thee, O Lord, I lift up my head. For Thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon Thee." Psalm 86:4-5

"I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From whence shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth." Psalm 121: 1-2

"To Thee I lift up my eyes, O Thou who art enthroned in the heavens!...So our eyes look to the Lord our God, Until He shall be gracious to us." Psalm 123:1-2

Your eyes can be lifted up and focused on the hope that God provides.

Psalm 40:1-3 expresses it this way. "I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay; And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm. And He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear, And will trust in the Lord."

Next, Psalm 42:5 says "Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him For the help of His presence."

God can also be your refuge. "God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in time of trouble." Psalm 46:1

If you feel like quitting on life, read this verse. "Behold, God is my helper; The Lord is the sustainer of my soul." Psalm 54:4

Do you need your spirit and soul revived? Psalm 71:20 says "Thou, who hast shown me many troubles and distresses, Wilt revive me again."

Psalm 72: 12-14 is a very encouraging passage. "For he will deliver the needy when he cries for help, The afflicted also, and him who has no helper. He will have compassion on the poor and needy, And the lives of the needy he will save. He will rescue their life from oppression and violence...". Did you catch that? If you have NO ONE to help you, God will come through.

There is a story of a person who had a dream of walking on a beach. He saw two pairs of footprints. He asked God why there were two pairs and God said it was because He was walking with him. The man observed that at times there was only one pair of footprints. He asked God about that, and God told him that those were the times when He carried him through trials.

One final passage is found in Isaiah 43:18-19. "Do not call to mind the former things, Or ponder the things of the past. Behold, I will do something new, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert." God can make a way when there is no way.

Lift up your head and put your hope in a risen Lord.

Lift up your head and put your hope in the Word of God.

Call upon God today for your help in time of need. You do not have to be bowed down or bent over any longer. You can be like a runner poised for a race, with your head up and eyes focused on the finish line!
