FIVE BIBLICAL EXAMPLES FOR BEING A MAN OF GOD

The Bible provides many examples of what it really means to be a man of God, and there is a practical lesson to learn from each of these stories.

DAVID: I Samuel 17

When David opposed Goliath he did so with courage and confidence. He was determined to put a stop, once and for all, to a leader who was defying his God. Young David had had enough! He knew he was an expert at using a slingshot so he decided to take advantage of it and kill the giant. I am not advocating murder, of course, but as men, we need to stand up for truth, against any person or organization that is seeking to destroy it. We can hold the banner high for truth!

DANIEL: Daniel 1:19, 5:11, 6:3, and 9:3

Daniel was a young man of exceptional character, so much so that he stood out from the rest and was noticed by those in authority. Let's all be men of character at home, at church, and at work, so that God will be glorified. We should not do it to be noticed or promoted, but to be pleasing to Him. God may move us into positions of leadership, but if He does or doesn't, we can still be men of character.

NOAH: Genesis 6, and 9:3

Noah was a man of great faith, obedience, and patience in the face of ridicule, during all those years he spent building the ark. God rewarded him by sparing his family from the judgment of the flood. Is there anything in which you and I, as men, need to exhibit great faith and patience? Perhaps it is a situation at home or with our marriage. Let's all be like Noah, no matter how long it may take, to see something through until the end. Our family could depend upon it.

PETER: Acts 2

There was much confusion about why all people were hearing their particular language spoken during Pentecost. Peter took advantage of the situation and boldly proclaimed the Gospel to those gathered, which included some very important people. This resulted in 3000 converts! As men, we can look for opportunities to boldly speak the Gospel.

JOSEPH: Genesis 39

Joseph had become very successful, to the point where he was put in charge of Pharoah's house. He encountered a problem when Pharoah's wife wanted to lay with him. Joseph immediately ran from the house. He wasn't about to sacrifice his position and reputation by compromising his moral beliefs. Men, do not allow your reputation and in some cases, your ministry, to be ruined by a sexual impulse of the moment.
