Marriage

To my husband:
I was thinking of light this morning - and how it changes how we see what is around us....
In the moonlight, everything has a cold, white glow about it.... it is somehow too white, and gives a sense of taking away the color of things and showing them in a light that is almost too harsh.

Sometimes there are relationships - notable NOT ours, that are like this light...the aura of criticism is around everything, the bitterness and gall is foremost, and every action is imbued with a coldness and indifference...making the relationship a ghost of what it should be.

Then there is sunlight.... it is bright and lights up everything around it...there is no darkness in it, but sometimes even this light can be too relentless...the glare can be almost too much...the light a little too bright.

And there are relationships like this also - NOT like ours.... that are like this.... every single thing is examined and pronounced over...the examination too meticulous, too demanding...every little thing is put under a microscope, and it can sometimes just choke the life out of the relationship, out of the sheer fear of everything being second-guessed.

But then there is candlelight...this light Is like our relationship.... it is golden and warm.... with just enough darkness that rough edges are not seen, and there is a softness about it that presents everything in it's best light.... the glow of the light becoming part of everything we see.
