The Gift of Friendship

Friendship is a priceless gift 

That cannot be bought or sold, 

But its value is far greater than 

A mountain made of gold.

For gold is cold and lifeless

It can neither see nor hear,

And in the time of trouble it

is powerless to cheer.

It has no ears to listen 

Nor heart to understand, 

It cannot bring you comfort 

Or reach out a helping hand.

So when you ask God for a gift

Be thankful if He sends,

Not diamond, pearls or riches--

But the love of real true friends.

It hung on the wall in the kitchen in my mother’s marital home. We moved away to a temporary accommodation, due to domestic violence, and it was hung in the living room. Then we moved to a more permanent address where my mum resides to this day and it has changed positions over the years.  I remember glancing at it as I walked through the hall way.  I had it in my bedroom at one stage. However, on the 23rd October 2010, I saw it hanging on my mother’s wardrobe door.  I sat on my mother’s bed and wrote the words down word for word. They were no longer words on a canvas accompanied by beautiful pictures, I had finally understood the meaning of the words that were woven together. I was in need of those encouraging words and still appreciate the message within.  I am glad I did take the time to write the words down in my diary for now I can begin to understand why friends were so much more important to my mother as she went through her ordeal. I can also share it with you just in case you need to be encouraged today. Be blessed!
