Proverbs 24:3-4
By Wisdom a house is built, and by Understanding it is established. By Knowledge the rooms are filled with ALL PRECIOUS AND PLEASANT RICHES......

Psalm 68:6
God gives the desolate a home to dwell in....

The size of your house is NOT important... but.... How many people to whom you open the door is.

For three months this past year our home was a 30 foot camper. Five of us, two dogs and a cat!!! Life as we had known, no longer existed. No more did I have the freedom of quiet time ALONE, no place to reflect no place to escape.

In July of 2000 we lost our income just three weeks after selling our house with dreams of building a log home. Today, a year later... we have lost most of the possessions we had in this world, and the remaining ones are in the Lord‘s hands.
Thanksgiving 2000 we moved into our basement. With most of it finished off we chose to abandon the camper life. And Praised God for the room He had given us. Bedrooms for quiet time, a living room to watch movies with my family, a kitchen table to share dinners and pray together. Finally it seemed we were headed down the right path. Winter would set in, 165 inches of snow this year. The flat roof did not hold up as well as we thought, leaks almost daily. I remember waking up to over one inch of standing water on our floor, our carpet was soaked and stained, and all the water ruined the insulation. This became the focus of all my emotions! Having a good day meant I could wake up without having to bail out my house. The depression was strong; my emotions were at the end. I had become a person I no longer recognized when I looked into the mirror. The strong Christian I had become seemed to be a memory. I had become a pitiful person!

Searching for the strength to continue, strength to wake up each morning, strength to forgive others and myself for actions during this time is what God used to get me out of this prison.

Psalm 37:16
A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked men.

Deuteronomy 26:11
Thou shall rejoice in EVERY good thing which the Lord Thy God has given thee.

You see I know I can not control my circumstances, but what I have learned is that I can ALWAYS control the attitude in which I face them. I had put so much value on the house we did not have, that I forgot the home we did. A home built by love and centered on God, a home filled with love, prayer and thanksgiving. The camper we lived in was a home, and this basement we now live in is also a home. It is full of love, prayer and thanksgiving. I would not change the relationship we have with God or each other for any size house in the world. You can buy a house but you cannot buy the love to fill it. Sure I pray that some day this house will be finished, but I am content knowing that each day we work towards that.. Our home continues to be complete.

Very inspirational. No one would ever want anything like this to happen to anyone, but you've used it to show that in Christ we really are very rich. Deb
