OUR SCARY, SAD, UNCERTAIN WORLD

Is there a person among us who has never read newspaper headlines or watched the television news that hasn’t wondered if it’s bad and getting worse, or if, indeed, it is very much as it has always been? Good question. Human nature probably hasn’t altered perceptibly, but obviously our numbers have increased thus emphasizing both the bad and the good. There is no timeline or anything that attaches particular attention to any one era.

It may be futile to look for an explanation for all the unrest and evil that is piling up in our world. God is the only One Who knows any of the answers to anything, any place, or anybody for sure. Perhaps we would do well to consider our own behavior, our reverence for Him and His Word, and with obedience, prayer and supplication, live each day in faith, hope and love. Obviously, we will never be able to make a lot of improvement in the world at large, but we can, as the old song says, “Brighten the corner where we are,” by living happy, faithful, hopeful lives, loving God and each other. We don’t know how it all will end, but we are given personal and specific rules of behavior, no matter what is happening in our world, and we can tend to those faithfully, and we know how our part will end.

“Fear not, little flock, for it is the Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32 “I will fear no evil for Thou art with me.” Psalm 23 He knows when a sparrow falls, and He cares.

Dear Christian brothers and sisters, we really have nothing to fear except a weak and trembling faith that falls victim to a scary world. God is our stronghold, our Maker. He will take care of us if we trust and obey His will. True, they may take our lives as they did the Son of God Himself, but we’ll just go home sooner, rejoicing all the way!
