THE VALLEY OF THE SHADOW

Having reached almost 92 years of life upon this earth, about two weeks ago I came very close to the end of life. But by the grace of God, and reasons known only to Him, I survived. It did, however, cause deep contemplation on my part. The memory of David’s exquisite 23rd Psalm came so clearly to mind and spoke to my heart like never before.

“The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for Thou art with me; Thy rod and staff, they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil. My cup overflows.
.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23

David understood God so well and embraced Him so completely. Small wonder that the Bible says David was a man after God’s own heart. The fact that he stumbled and fell and repented serves more to cheer us rather than scare us, for we are frail creatures of dust. In our lives we are sometimes weak, faith fades and we lose heart. But here is proof positive that God will forgive our sins and love us still if we have faith as a grain of mustard seed. Oh, Christian, don’t ever give up! God never will. You see, He loves us as no one else ever has or ever will. Let us bow in solemn wonder and eternal thanksgiving to the Great Giver of Love Everlasting!
